Overview

This 8-day trek leads you into Djebel Saghro, a spectacular volcanic mountain range in southern Morocco, nestled between the High Atlas and the Sahara. You'll hike across lunar-like plateaus, dramatic basalt peaks, narrow gorges, and isolated oases. This is also a unique immersion in the world of the Aït Atta nomads, who migrate seasonally with their tents and goats. An authentic adventure, available from September to the end of May, perfect for those who love wild nature and Berber culture.

Tour Plan

Arrival at Marrakech airport, welcome, then transfer to your hotel, check-in.

After your breakfast, transfer southward, passing the Tichka Pass (2260m), arrival in Ouarzazate, stop for lunch, then in the afternoon, change direction, this time heading east, crossing the palm grove of Skoura, then the Valley of Roses and through Boumalne Dades, you will arrive at the small village of Tagdilte (1700m), check-in at the guesthouse, dinner and overnight. 6H drive.

At the beginning of the hike, you will assist with loading the mules, then start your hike across a vast plateau before ascending to the Tizi N’iferd pass (2400m), from where you will have a beautiful distant view of the Central High Atlas range, stop at the foot of the pass for lunch, then crossing the pass and descending to the Iferd plateau, set up your bivouac at Imi n’Ouarg (2250m), on a plateau often crossed by semi-nomadic Aït Atta transhumants. 5H30 walk.

You will begin with a beautiful ascent to the summit of Kouaouch (2600m), from where you’ll get a magnificent view of the whole massif, a climb that requires no technical equipment. Your cook will bring you the picnic, then descent via Tassegdilt to the Igli cirque (1700m), set up your bivouac. 5H30 walk.

You will descend through the Afourar valley which gradually turns into gorges, passing the small oasis of Bouallouz, arriving in Ousdidene, the landscape opens up to a vast plateau dominated by the peaks of Bab n’Ali, stop for lunch, then ascent to the famous Bab n’Ali gate and continue to the Ighazoune oasis (1600m), set up your bivouac, dinner and overnight. 5H walk.

Another stage with extraordinary beautiful landscapes heading southeast through the small Tifdassine pass, then a long descent through the beautiful valley of the same name, stop for lunch under the almond trees, arrival at the village of Handour, check-in at the guesthouse, dinner and overnight. 5H walk.

After thanking your mule team, transfer by minibus to Nkob, then Agdez before crossing the Tichka pass, lunch after the pass, arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon, check-in at your hotel. 7H transfer.
