Experience an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Moroccan desert, where golden dunes, vast rocky plateaus, and hidden oases await. This camel trekking journey takes you from Marrakech to the remote areas of the Draa Desert, accompanied by a nomadic team and their camels. Travel through timeless landscapes, meet local nomadic families, sleep under the stars, and discover the rich natural and cultural heritage of southern Morocco. A deeply authentic and spiritual escape into the wild.
Arrival at Marrakech airport, greeted by your guide, transferred to your riad, check-in, dinner and overnight.
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer by minibus via Tichka Pass (2260 m), lunch in Ouarzazate, then descend the famous Draa Valley—rich palm groves, henna, alfalfa, barley, wheat, ksars and kasbahs. Pass through Zagora, arriving in Ouled Driss to meet your camel team. A one-hour walk brings you to a bivouac near the old village of M’Hamid. Distances: Marrakech–Ouled Driss/ 450 km; Marrakech–Ouarzazate/200 km (lunch) Travel time: 7–8 hours including stops.
Begin your first trekking day crossing part of the Bounou palm grove, learning ancient anti-desertification techniques. Trek through regs and ergs dotted with tamaris, enjoying fantastic silence for meditation. Lunch under ancient tamaris, then continue to the Sidi Naji dunes. Bivouac setup. ~5 hours walking.
Head west into the great desert spaces. Discover the golden dunes of Zaher. Lunch on-site. In the afternoon, climb the highest dune to watch sunset. Return to camp, dinner by campfire, mint tea prepared by nomad camel handlers. ~5 hours walking. Elevation: +100 m for dune climb.
Move on to Smar dunes. Lunch by a well, optional Berber shower. Continue to your bivouac at the dunes of Smar, dinner by campfire with mint tea, watch bread baked in sand. ~5 hours walking.
Head northwest, crossing golden dunes toward the great dune of Laabidlia. Arrive at the magical site. Lunch and bivouac setup. ~4 hours walking. Afternoon dune climb for sunset, return to camp, dinner around the fire.
Wake for sunrise, breakfast, then transfer by 4x4 to Foum Zguid, cross Siroua Massif valley, lunch en route, and return to your riad in Marrakech. Dinner and overnight.
Transfer to the airport and departure assistance.
Your bags:
A small day backpack (water bottle, sunscreen, camera, sunglasses, hat…)
A large backpack or duffle to be carried by camels (avoid suitcases).
Sleeping:
A warm and comfortable sleeping bag.
Clothes to bring:
• 1 hat, cap, or scarf.
• T-shirts.
• A fleece or warm jacket.
• 1 pair of trekking pants.
• Hiking socks to prevent blisters.
• 1 pair of lightweight trekking shoes with ankle support.
• 1 pareo (useful for discreet washing).
• Underwear.
• 1 pair of comfortable evening pants.
• 1 pair of very lightweight shoes for the evening.
Personal first aid kit:
Our kit covers basic first aid. Please bring: painkiller, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, intestinal antiseptic, antiemetic, plasters, small roll of adhesive bandage, antiseptic, eye drops, personal medications (antibiotics…).
Currency:
€1 ≈ 10.50 dirhams. Visa withdrawals available in cities. Exchange offices widely available.
Local time:
Morocco is on GMT (1 hour behind Swiss time: noon in Switzerland = 11:00 am in Morocco).
Passport:
For French, Belgian, or Swiss nationals, valid passport (no visa) with at least 6 months validity after Morocco entry.
Health:
No vaccinations mandatory. Prevention is recommended.
1 euro équivaut à environ 10 à 11 dirhams selon le cour de la banque. Dans toutes les grandes villes, vous pourrez retirer de l'argent avec une carte Visa internationale. Vous trouverez également de nombreux bureaux de change. Attention, ne retirez pas trop d'argent car l'exportation des dirhams est interdite.
Le Maroc est à l'heure GMT, il y a donc une heure de décalage par rapport à l’Europe.
Pour les ressortissants français, belges ou suisses, passeport en cours de validité (pas de visa) valable au moins six mois après la date d’entrée sur le territoire marocain.
Aucune vaccination n'est obligatoire. La meilleure précaution restant la prévention.
